Microsoft Word

Take the unique opportunity to enhance your skills under the guidance of Tom Jones, one of the profession's most respected educators.
About this course
Take your writing skills to the next level with Thomas W. Jones! Many genealogists rely on Microsoft Word but often use only its basic functions. However, making informed choices about document setup can significantly impact how peers or family members perceive your work.
This masterclass is designed to enhance your Microsoft Word expertise through structured, hands-on learning. Under the guidance of Tom Jones—one of the profession’s most respected educators—you’ll gain valuable insights into crafting well-structured, professional genealogical documents.
Each module consists of two parts:
• Part One (Week 1): Learn and apply a Microsoft Word feature in class.
• Part Two (Week 2): Apply what you’ve learned to your own genealogical writing, with the opportunity to share and receive instructor feedback.
Who should attend?
This masterclass is designed for family historians who want to advance their writing and document formatting skills in Microsoft Word. Whether you’re compiling case studies, research reports, family history books, or journal articles, understanding how to structure and present your work professionally can make all the difference.
If you find yourself spending too much time on formatting, struggling with consistency in your documents, or simply wanting to work more efficiently, this course will provide the tools and techniques you need. You don’t need to be a Word expert—just willing to learn and apply new skills that will help you produce clear, polished, and well-organised genealogical writing.
